On June 12, 2022, Bishop Causse’ and sixteen others visited Adam-ondi Ahman.  In sacrament meeting that day, Elder Dunford who was invited to meet with them shared his experience. Just for the record we have a butterfly explosion here today!

Elder Dunford explained that each area of the world has a DTA, or director of temporal affairs, who work with Area General Authorities.  Occasionally they have cluster meetings, and their time here was part of such a meeting. There were five DTA’s and their wives. Two drivers were included as well.  For this cluster meeting it was decided that they would receive training as well as visit Church History sites in Missouri.  When they contacted Elder Dunford to make plans for their visit here, he offered our building, private time at Tower Hill as well as a meal prepared by some of the sister. Nate Hollist, one of the DTA’s shared a historical presentation about Adam-ondi-Ahman and then a testimony meeting followed.  The group had a picture at Preacher’s Rock and returned to the Diahman for lunch.

Some “take a ways” from Bishop Causse’s message this morning were shared by Elder Dunford.  Elder Causse’ is in charge of all the temporal affairs of the Church including the welfare program, temples, meeting houses, church history sites, investment arms of the church as well as humanitarian efforts.

Bishop Causse’ described AOA not as a Church History site, but a place where the past is simply moving forward.  It’s a meeting place for past and future events.  The powerful spirit that most sense here is akin to the temple.  Elder Causse explained why.

The sacrifices offered by Adam and Eve were done in the similitude of the Savior  and the precursor of temple worship.  Ordinances are not received here now, there is evidence some were received here in the past.  In D&C 107:53-56, we read that Adam meeting his posterity in this valley to prepare them to be in the presence of the Savior.  Few doubt that with his final blessing he gave them their endowment.  The Savior did appear at to them at that time.

Then Elder Dunford spoke from his own heart.  He shared D&C 88:119, “Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of God.” He pointed out that this verse was given in regard to building a temple.  All that it includes exists here or is available to all who come prepared.

He shared a few words written by Oliver Cowdery to describe his experience as scribe to the prophet Joseph as he translated the Book of Mormon. He wrote, “ These were days never to be forgotten—to sit under the sound of a voice dictated by the inspiration of heaven, awakened the utmost gratitude of this bosom!”

Elder Dunford suggested we are experiencing days never to be forgotten and we should keep our own record for ourselves and our posterity, recognizing with utmost gratitude the blessing and privilege that is ours.

He then finished with a quote from Elder Uchtdorf given in the Oct. 2021 General Conference. “As our days go, so go our lives. One author put it this way: “A day is like a whole life. You start out doing one thing, but end up doing something else, plan to run an errand, but never get there. … And at the end of your life, your whole existence has that same haphazard quality, too. Your whole life has the same shape as a single day.”

Do you want to change the shape of your life? Change the shape of your day.

Do you want to change your day? Change this hour. Change what you think, feel, and do at this very moment. A small rudder can steer a large ship. Small bricks can become magnificent mansions. Small seeds can become towering sequoias.

Minutes and hours well spent are the building blocks of a life well lived. They can inspire goodness, lift us from the captivity of imperfections, and lead us upward to the redemptive path of forgiveness and sanctification.”

Elder Dunford left us with a challenge to determine why the Lord sent us here and get it done.  Identify what we can to contribute and learn and make certain our daily choices are helping us become and accomplish all we were sent to do.

The most consequential things in life are done by ordinary people doing extraordinary things over time.  He bore his witness of Bishop Causse’s sacred calling and his sure testimony that the Savior will come to this land we are daily working to prepare.
